As many of you noticed, on Saturday the 8th of October a call went out for neighbours to come by and bring a tulip bulb for planting around our shared mailbox area. A goodly number of Solerites appeared with garden implements in hand to make the occaision a fun and very social one. A huge Thank You to Isabel Gibson for organizing the event.
Many noticed that in order to keep pesky varmints and other "critters" away from the newly planted bulbs and other flora, mothballs were spread around the garden. These were very successful in their primary mission but attracted City officials who asked that they be removed. Seems that despite their pest control capabilities some local young ones and other fauna were being attracted to them as well. So, in the interest of community safety the mothballs have been removed.
I have been asked by other avid gardeners to remind our neighbours that if they have any "spare" plants available come springtime - or even during fall pruning - to bring them down to the community garden and find them a new home for all to enjoy.
Enjoy the fall season - and the brand new blacktop on Solera Circle!
