Solera Community Update #3
From Councillor Deans

Dear Neighbour,

As promised, please find below an update to the action items recommended through the Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) Audit, which took place on June 2, 2010 in the Solera Community.

1. Ensure developer completes removal of earth mounds and re-grade edges to within 3 to 5 metres of edge of walkway.

UPDATE:

Dan Raymond of the City's Development Inspections Unit contacted the developer and they completed the work on the week of June 21st.

2. Request developer to topsoil and seed re-graded area.

UPDATE:

As per site plan conditions, the developer is not required to seed or sod the pathway. However, I am working with Patrick Legault in the City’s Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Branch on other avenues to explore in getting this work completed.

3. Maintain 3 to 5 metre strip as part of overall pathway maintenance.

UPDATE:

Chuck Wheatley from the City's Park Maintenance Branch advised that the grass was cut on June 3, 2010 and will continue to be cut every 2 weeks.

4. Tree, branch and shrub trimming.

UPDATE:

Completed by Parks Maintenance on June 3, 2010.

5. Remove additional dead trees in woodlot.

UPDATE:
Julie Jackson from the City’s Forestry Branch has advised that 10 dead trees were removed from the woodlot behind 122, 124 and 126 Solera Circle in late May 2010. As well, two additional dead trees behind 142 & 144 Solera Circle have been added to the Forestry Branch’s removal work list for the coming weeks.

6. Review signage entering walkway.

UPDATE: Patrick Legault is reviewing the signage policy for walkways and whether a sign with the City of Ottawa’s phone number (311) is warranted in this location Mr. Legault will update the community once he has more information.

7. Monitor children's activity/speed entering/exiting walkway for requirement of potential barrier to reduce speed. Review in one year.

UPDATE:

Residents and Mr. Legault will monitor this activity in the next year. Should you have any observations to share, please send an e-mail to Patrick Legault at Patrick.Legault@ottawa.ca or myself at Diane.Deans@ottawa.ca.

8. Review requirement for stop sign at intersection of Dunston Terrace and Solera Circle.

UPDATE:

I contacted the City's Traffic Department and they have advised that a stop sign will be installed at the Dunston Terrace and Solera Circle intersection, most likely by the end of July.

You will notice that there are a few items that are outstanding, for example items 6 and 7. I hope to provide you with an update on these items once I receive more information from City staff. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns about the above information.

Wishing you and your family a Happy Canada Day,
