Municipal Election 2010 - Really?

We go to the polls on 25 October - a mere 5 weeks away at this point - and still nothing from our Councillor Deans. Not a word! Not even an acknowledgement that she is running! How arrogant is that - and how stupid does she think the voters in Gloucester-Southgate are? Is she running a ghost-campaign?

I am a big fan of Randall Denley and his viewpoints. He seems to seek out the central truth/message/fallacy and brings it to light. In today's column, he makes the point about the leadership vacuum emanating from many councillors. That and Jim Watson's very lackluster campaign. Watson seems to know that he can lose the mayor's chair if he opens his mouth with any original thought emanating from it - so he plays dumb and thinks we won't notice. He hopes we won't notice that he has quit every job he's had since he was mayor here last time. He hopes we won't notice that he had not any of his own ideas but rather those that he reads in the polls or gets from trusted staff. Enough said on that matter.

The only serious contenders for the office of mayor are Watson and O'Brien - the rest are pretender-contenders. Clive Doucet is a plant for the positions of rural portions of the city (pun intended). Haydon is in only to push for a bus-only transit system - and hoping for the curmudgeon vote. The rest ... well good luck on "Survivor-Ottawa."

Is there any wonder that there is exceeding poor turnout for municipal elections - especially here in Ottawa?

Comments always welcome.
